Brushed or Brushless Motors?
It is common knowledge that a more expensive brushless motor lasts longer due to lower friction within the motor. Furthermore, there is a microchip within each motor to regulate solar power to the motor. These chips are proprietary to the manufacturer and vary in quality and reliability.
Quality of Materials
It is typically a personal preference whether you prefer a fan that is plastic or metal. Each have their pluses and minuses. Aluminum is great because it won't rust. However, anodized aluminum can fade over time and give a good fan an "old fan" look. ABS plastic, obviously, will not rust either. However, roof and attic conditions can become unbearably hot. This can lead to product deformation. A slight deformation in the housing can lead to the motor and fan blade becoming off-center and cause wobbling. This can create further problems (like noise) and the fan may need to be replaced. We personally prefer powder-coated steel. Again, that is only our preference, but it is a more expensive material.
Customer service?
When considering a new technology, many customers will have questions. Is the company friendly? Are they patient with your questions? Are they knowledgeable about their technology? Will they get product to you quickly when you have a roofing job or install scheduled? Are they an established company? And most importantly, will they fulfill their warranty obligations?
